When I studied abroad in Paris, I was surprised and then not so shocked that the Japanese and French cultures have influenced each other so heavily. There was a degree of assimilation of things Japanese in this European community that I had not experienced anywhere else outside of Japan. I actually was thrilled to feel closer to my native, Japanese roots in France than in the United States. This artwork celebrates the Joy in this discovery. Black and White gelatin silver print, oil paint, oil pastel, digital photo inkjet print square on Arches Text Wove fine art paper, acryla gouache, metallic gold leaf, polymer medium, collage, and colored pencil on acid-free, archival, 6x6 in. flat hardboard panel.
