The Language of XXO

Kisses and Hugs as customs are mysteriously varied across cultures. The ubiquitously written and typed "XO" carries its own enigma; it turns out that the symbols have interchangeable meanings. According to Wikipedia, "X" symbolizes either the four lips involved in a kiss or a hug's crossed arms. "O" represents the shape of gathered lips in a kiss, or I always took it to mean a hug... This painting on paper employs oil pastel, copper leaf with patina, gouache and a little vine charcoal to play with and marvel at the meaning that two letters in our alphabet produce when placed next to each other! Mixed media on 6x6 in. acid-free black fine art paper.
