Shuko Kawase is a photographer and painter who is currently doing a longterm artist residency in Atami, Japan.

She was born in Singapore and spent time growing up in Tokyo, Japan; Princeton, NJ, USA; and Frankfurt, Germany. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art with Honors from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and she finished her college art studies at the Buddhist-based Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Wanting to reconnect with her family's culture, Shuko lived in Japan for 7 years before moving to Spain in 2017. 

She worked for 8.5 years in Barcelona as a photographer and videographer with photographer Nicanor García. They worked together to create content for tourism boards all over the world, technology brands, and cultural and travel institutions.
